we recently had some kids draw us a picture of the witch(es). they also threw in some pictures of duendes (elves or gnomes, pronounced "DWEN-days"). the witches (brujas, pronounced "BREW-has") are real people (one of the drawings has the names of the witches). covering themselves with ash, they fly around to different peoples' homes and make mischief (tangling up your hair in your sleep, and "messing with you"). the witches can also turn into birds.
also, the kids said they found a duende's hat one time and they put it in their grandmother's house and then one day when they wanted to look at it it was gone. they said it was made of metal. the duendes are little white people with beards that live down by the river and will take children. they don't talk, but make a "ch-ch-ch-ch" noise.
