a day like today
A lot of things have happened in the history of the world on a day just like today. Here are a few of them that happened on this date, in different years:
1714 - The typewriter is patented (but built years later).
1914 - The first steamboat goes through the Panama Canal.
1927 - Telephone service begins between London and New York.
1928 - The River Thames swells out of its banks, causing one of London´s worst floods.
1929 - Tarzan appears, one of the first adventure stories.
1964 - Nicholas Cage, U.S. actor, is born.
